Management Approach
EHS&S Management System
Agrium stewards to an integrated Environment, Health, Safety and Security Management System (EMS) that includes a policy and a system that documents minimum EHS&S management and performance expectations applicable to our facilities worldwide. Agrium’s business units and, where appropriate, individual facilities augment these requirements with system controls necessary to manage the risks unique to those operations. At the operations level, program best practices are in place to direct the desired outcome.
Our EMS program is frequently assessed to generate recommendations on areas for improvement. In addition to the measures we employ internally, we also abide by government and regulatory standards in the countries where we have operations. We believe that our performance rests on strong, continually improving business systems that extend beyond meeting regulatory requirements.
Agrium developed a product stewardship standard to our Environmental Management System in early 2010 to ensure that we develop strong, compliant and best practices relating to product development, quality control, purchasing, registration, labeling, product safety information, and emerging regulatory issues.
DMA
The Disclosures on Management Approach (DMA) for Product Stewardship provides an overview of how we address product safety issues to ensure continual improvement. This DMA describes such fundamental management components as policies, responsibilities, strategies, and monitoring, and sets the context for our product safety performance information.
Our DMAs are presented in a diagram form that mirrors the classic “Plan > Do > Check > Adjust” cycle popularized in quality management circles. The diagrams reflect the fact that our product safety management system must start with a plan, and that it must be implemented, reviewed and improved upon.
