Agrium's predecessor company (Cominco Fertilizers Ltd.) became an independent public corporation when its common shares were listed in an initial public offering on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) in 1993. The company adopted its current name - Agrium Inc. - and stock symbol "AGU" in 1995. In 1996, Agrium's common shares were listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), which consolidated Agrium's trading identity under "AGU" on both stock exchanges.
